Exploring
Aerial Relaxation Pods™
In a city that rarely stops moving, Aerial Relaxation Pods™ offer something quietly radical: the experience of being fully supported, suspended, and allowed to rest.
A place to be held, gently, above the noise of the city
You are invited to lie back in a soft aerial hammock, gently cocooned, while live sound unfolds around you. There is nothing to achieve, nothing to fix, nothing to perform. Just space to soften, breathe, and let your nervous system settle.
This is deep rest for modern lives — an antidote to constant stimulation, decision-making, and doing. A chance to be held, rather than holding everything together.
Developed by URUBU – School of Transformational Arts in collaboration with Ecstatic Dance London, Aerial Relaxation Pods™ have been supporting Londoners into rest since 2016.
What Is Aerial Relaxation?
Aerial relaxation is a rest-based, fully supported experience using suspended hammocks and live sound.
During a session, you lie in a fabric hammock that gently cradles your body just above the ground. Around you, facilitators create a live sound journey using instruments such as gongs, singing bowls, and ambient tones. There may be light verbal guidance at the beginning, then long stretches of quiet sound and stillness.
Unlike yoga, there is no movement to follow.
Unlike meditation, there is no focus to maintain.
Unlike floor-based sound baths, your body is lifted and supported, reducing physical effort.
You are welcome to simply lie back, close your eyes, and let yourself be held by the hammock and the sound.
For those who prefer not to be suspended, comfortable mat spaces are also available — the experience remains equally gentle and inclusive.
What To Expect At An
Aerial Relaxation Session
If you’re new to aerial relaxation, it’s natural to feel curious — or a little unsure. Sessions are designed to feel calm, predictable, and well-held from start to finish.
Arrival & Settling
You’ll be welcomed into the space and shown to your hammock (or mat). The room is softly lit and unhurried. You’ll have time to settle, adjust blankets, and get comfortable.
Getting Into The Hammock
Facilitators offer clear, simple guidance for entering and adjusting the hammock. You are fully supported at all times, and help is always available. Once settled, many people find the hammock immediately reassuring.
Gentle Guidance
At the beginning, there may be a short, optional verbal invitation — encouraging breath awareness or body softening. This is light-touch and non-directive.
Live Sound & Stillness
Sound unfolds gradually. Gongs, bowls, and ambient textures ebb and flow, with moments of silence woven in. You are free to drift, rest, or simply listen.
Intergration & Grounding
At the end, the sound gently fades. There is time to re-orient, sit up slowly, and come back into the room. Many sessions close with a quiet moment of grounding before you leave.
There is no sharing circle, no pressure to speak, and no expectation of a particular experience.
Why Hammocks Support Deep Rest
Most of us spend our days holding ourselves upright — sitting, standing, bracing, gripping. Even when we lie down, the body often stays subtly “on guard”.
Hammocks change this.
Being suspended allows your weight to be distributed evenly, reducing the small muscular efforts we usually don’t notice. The fabric supports the spine, hips, and shoulders, often in a way that feels surprisingly relieving.
There is also something deeply familiar about gentle rocking. Many people describe a sense of being safely held, similar to being cradled. This can make it easier for the nervous system to shift out of alert mode and into rest.
Nothing is forced. Nothing is induced.
The hammock simply creates conditions where letting go becomes more accessible.
Who Aerial Relaxation Is For
Aerial relaxation is especially suited to people who:
- Feel overstimulated, busy, or burnt out
- Struggle to fully “switch off” in daily life
- Are curious about rest-based or somatic practices
- Prefer non-verbal, low-effort experiences
- Want to unwind without needing to move or engage socially
No previous experience is needed. You don’t need to be flexible, spiritual, musical, or “good at relaxing”. All bodies are welcome. Options are offered so you can choose what feels right for you.
A Gift of
Rest
Some gifts say, “I saw how much you’ve been carrying.”
Aerial Relaxation Pods™ gift vouchers offer an experience rather than an object — time, space, and care. They make thoughtful presents for birthdays, transitions, periods of stress, or simply as an act of kindness.
Whether given to a loved one or to yourself, a voucher is an invitation to pause and be supported.
Private & Corporate Sessions
Aerial relaxation is also available for private groups and organisations.
These sessions are well suited to:
Small group gatherings
Team wellbeing days
Creative or therapeutic communities
Corporate environments seeking genuine nervous-system support
Sessions are calm, inclusive, and accessible to mixed experience levels. No one is asked to share or participate beyond resting. The focus is on creating a grounded environment where people can genuinely downshift.
Private sessions can be held at our regular venue or brought to suitable external spaces
Real People. Real Results
"Words are inadequate to express the uniquely nurturing experience I had during your class... and the music was amazing! The feeling of being securely wrapped in a silk hammock from head to toe, suspended in the air, slowly rocking, with the gentle breath meditation, the crystal bowls and the ambient music created a sublime and profound atmosphere. It was as if I was in a cocoon of total support, allowing peace to flow into my entire being."
Being someone who is always on the move and finds it very difficult to relax, I found this session to be really valuable ‘me time!’ Initially, I found it difficult to let go and unwind where the muscles in my arms and legs were contracting. After a few minutes, I started to drift away into a soft slumber which was deeply relaxing. Despite this my senses were heightened and I became very conscious of the sounds that seemed to travel through my ears, vibrating all the way into my body. The gentle movements of the hammock with the music in the background made me feel like a young infant being rocked to sleep. A wonderfully calming and soothing experience, with the added bonus of not having to put in any physical effort. Great! I look forward to more of this
